Our philosophy is to ensure that each child is loved and cared for in a healthy and safe environment. Learning experiences and social activities are incorporated into a well-planned program, which is designed to foster a child’s emotional, physical, social, creative, and intellectual development in a warm and friendly environment.
Our philosophy is to provide an academic environment that encourages children to meet and exceed the Standards of Learning as set forth by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Discovery Oaks Academy began as Blake Preschool and Childcare Center over 35 years ago. Ilene and Warren Blake, and Stanley and Martha Mills started the original school on Church Road in Sterling in 1970. It was the first kindergarten (public or private) in Loudoun County. On September 18, 1992, Paula and David Munger purchased the school. Discovery Oaks Academy boasts over 35 years of developing curriculums that educate, nurture, and develop children so they have the skills to achieve. At Discovery Oaks Academy, we believe that children who begin ahead, stay ahead.
The Academy has been important to many families in the Northern Virginia area. Many close relationships have grown among staff and families over the years. A number of the Academy employees attended the school as children and sent their own children to Discovery Oaks Academy.
The Academy's convenient location is situated on over two acres of land, providing spacious and well-equipped playground areas, which are very important elements of the overall program. The school is part of an established Sterling neighborhood, and is bordered on one side by the wooded Claude Moore Park.
